In partnership with the City of Melbourne, VivaCity hosted a webinar to deep dive into how the implementation of AI sensors has led to a better understanding of how open spaces are used in Melbourne, whilst exploring how AI sensor data can help guide decision-making and strategies in the future.
This webinar is designed in to inform and share learnings with colleagues across local and state government, in addition to the wider transport community.
We were joined by Gemma Baxter, Pilot and Trial Specialist from the City of Melbourne.

City of Melbourne insights - How the data is being shared across various teams and projects. We delved into some key use cases for the data such as; counts (including VRUs), informing urban design and the speed of bicycles and e-scooters in Southbank.

In the Smart City Incubator, Gemma helps drive City of Melbourne's ambition to harness the power of emerging technologies to set the standard as an innovative, liveable and intuitive capital city. Melbourne's smart city practice began in 2006 with pedestrian counting and soil moisture sensors. Over the years, this practice has expanded into a comprehensive network of thousands of sensors supported by teams across the organisation. Through the Emerging Technology Testbed, City of Melbourne partners with community and industry to explore the function of new and emerging technologies.
